Emiliano Grillo (Argentina) overcame a double bogey on the final hole of the final round of the Charles Schwab Challenge ($8.7 million purse) on the U.S. Professional Golf (PGA) Tour. The Argentine overcame an embarrassing situation on the 18th (par-4) hole, where his ball hit the water and ran downstream for nearly five minutes, to win in a playoff with a two-stroke lead.

Grillo carded six birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey to finish at 8-under-par 272 in the final round of the tournament at Colonial CC (par 70-7209) in Fort Worth, Texas, U.S.A., on Sept. 29, tied for the lead with Adam Shank (USA) before winning the second overtime. It was his second PGA Tour victory in seven years and seven months after winning the 2015 Price.com Open in a playoff over Kevin Na (USA).

안전놀이터 After starting the day in a four-way tie for fourth place, Grillo birdied the 16th hole to reach a 10-under-par total and enter the final round with a two-stroke lead. With a victory in sight, Griyo’s tee shot sailed over the trees on the right side of the fairway and onto the cart path, where the ball fell into the water flowing along the grooves in the path and drifted backwards a bit.

Faced with the choice of hitting the ball in the ditch or taking a one-stroke penalty at the point where it entered the water, Grillo chose the latter and continued to play from the cart path, eventually making a double bogey and sending the match into overtime. In the first extra session on the 18th hole, Grillo hit another tee shot to the right, but this time the ball bounced into the fairway and tied with a shank, forcing a second extra session. On the second extension at the 16th (par-3), Grillo’s tee shot was headed for the right bunker but narrowly missed the chin and veered left, ending up 1.5 meters from the hole. Shank was unable to capitalize on Grillo’s good fortune, and the match went down to the wire.

World No. 1 Scottie Schauffler (USA) finished in a tie for third at 7-under 273, including a hole-in-one at the eighth (par-3). Ahn, who had finished in the top 10 for three straight days, dropped four shots on the day and slipped to a tie for 21st (1-under-par 279), while Kim Si-woo finished tied for 29th (even-par 280) and Lee Kyung-hoon finished tied for 57th (5-over-par 285).
