Jude Bellingham’s gift to the fans was likely a parting gift.
Borussia Dortmund drew 2-2 with Mainz in the final round of the 2022-23 German Bundesliga on Sunday at 10:30 p.m. ET at Zignale Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany. With one point, Dortmund fell just short of winning the title behind Bayern Munich, who beat Cologne 2-1. The two teams were tied on points, but Munich had the edge on goal difference.
The game looked to be Bellingham’s farewell match. Before the game, reports surfaced that Bellingham had completed a move to Real Madrid. Spain’s Marca reported that Bellingham had signed a contract with Real and that an announcement could come as early as next week. The report went on to explain that Real didn’t announce the signing right away because they wanted to allow Bellingham’s current club, Dortmund, to focus on their final game of the season, which could decide the title.
Bellingham also prepared to part ways with Dortmund. The UK’s Daily Mail quoted a report from Germany’s Ruhr Nachrichten as saying, “Bellingham handed out many parting gifts after missing out on the title. His departure may seem bittersweet given the circumstances, but he thanked his teammates and staff before leaving,” the Mail reported, noting that Bellingham handed out farewell gifts to members of the Dortmund organization he had been a part of.
He also thanked the fans. “A 19-year-old boy fan and his mother were presented with gifts, including a pair of soccer cleats signed by Bellingham, which he gave to security. In addition to the autograph, Bellingham even wrote a ‘thank you’ farewell message on the cleats.” Fans also received gifts from Bellingham.
The one gift Bellingham could have given everyone would have been a league title. However, Bellingham was unwell and started the game against Mainz on the bench and had to watch his team lose the title without playing. Even though he couldn’t bring home the trophy, Bellingham had a special parting gift for his teammates. 안전놀이터
