“Won-tae Choi pitched a perfect game, Lee Jung-hoo ignited the bats”

The Kiwoom Heroes exploded at the plate for the first time in a long time.

Kiwoom pounded out 20 hits, a team-high for a single game this season, in a 13-0 victory over the LG Twins in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Gocheok Sky Dome on Monday. Kiwoom split a three-game midweek series with LG, going 1-1 and 1-1.

It was Kiwoom’s second complete-game shutout of the season. Russell finished with a game-high four hits. Kim Hye-seong also had four hits and three RBIs, Lee Jung-hoo had two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored, and Song Sung-moon and Lee Hyung-jong each had two hits and two RBIs. Lee became the 110th player in history and the third youngest to reach 500 career RBIs, joining Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop and Kim Ha-seong.

Starting pitcher Choi Won-tae improved to 4-3 on the season with seven innings of five-hit ball, striking out seven and walking two. Kiwoom earned the victory without the after-effects of the previous day’s 5-5 tie after 12 extra innings.

The head coach was also pleased with the performance. After the game, Kiwoom head coach Hong Won-ki said, “Choi Won-tae pitched a flawless game. He completely shut down the opposing bats for seven innings.”
